This is a small mini-series run of Blue Multicolor (BMC) Jems that are resto-mods of early 90s Jem77 Blue Floral Patterns (BFP). There are 11 units total, one of which was the first one I did and refinished last year. We liked that one so much that I wanted to be able to keep one, then my other friend wanted to be able to keep one…so we grabbed a few more, stripped them all the way down and built them back up into BMCs.
The original finishes on these things was THICK…we strip all of that off down to wood. Then fix any dents/chips/etc. in the wood and shoot a rock-hard white sealer as a base. Then Day-Glo blue for the striping, and then paint it back/front. Clear is 6 coats of acrylic urethane that is cut and buffed to a high-gloss finish. Any hardware that is not original or worn is replaced and necks are cleaned up and either refretted (if they have to be) or set up with a nice level/crown/polish. Kinda like a brand new Jem from 1991 🙂
These are being sold in batches through Altitude Guitar
